Hill College Board of Regents holds June monthly meeting

On June 18, 2024, the Hill College Board of Regents met for the monthly regular session meeting.

The minutes from the May meeting were approved. The financial report was also presented and approved. Tuition revenue continues to trend up.

Dr. Mills presented his report, including an update on state funding. For the 2025 fiscal year there will be a reduction of $940,360 in state funds.

An update on enrollment was presented; overall enrollment numbers continue to remain steady.

Personnel updates were also presented and approved. Hiring of the new Vice President of Administrative Services Melissa Boyle was shared. Boyle will replace retiring VP Billy Don Curbo.

Vice President of The Student Experience Lizza Ross discussed student activities, including new student orientations at each campus. The Burleson Higher Education Center had a significant number of dual credit students attend orientation. At the Hill College Campus, many athletes were present. Overall, each campus had good attendance.

Vice President of Student Learning & Success Irene Accomando gave an update on the Fire Academy reconfiguration. The advisory board met earlier this month, new members were elected, a review of skills-specific data was presented, and the announcement of a new instructor from the Hill College EMS Program was presented. The next advisory board meeting will take place on July 18, 2024, at the Johnson County Campus.

Accomando also presented an update on the Hill College-Frontier Support Logistics Truck Driving Academy, which will offer CDL and heavy haul transport certification. Chris McElrath has been named the interim dean for the program, an instructor has been hired, branding and advertising efforts have begun, online curriculum will be available to students, and the property off I-35 has been approved for use of training.

Dean of Students and Athletics Randy Graves presented the athletic report. The men’s rodeo team gave a great performance at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming. Koby Douch won nationals in tie down roping, the second national championship in that event for the college since 1998. James Arviso won nationals in team roping with Kaden Profili (from Texas A&M Commerce). The men’s team placed 4th in the nation overall.

Physical Plant Director Matt Southard presented a consideration of approval for a change in custodial services management from SSC Services for Education to McLemore Building Maintenance. The motion was approved.

Vice President of The Student Experience Lizza Ross presented a consideration of approval a 3-year dining services contract with Great Western Dining, which would provide plans for students, coaches, and presidential and administrative events. The motion was approved.

Dean of Students and Athletics Randy Graves presented a consideration of approval for renewal of insurance for the athletic department. The motion was approved.

Members present: David Teel, Bill Galiga, Karen Brackin, Jennifer Nowlin, Jolene Lehmann, Tony Marley, and Dwight Lloyd.

Members absent: Kent Eubank, Allan Lane, Kevin Ray, Bill Siddons, and Rick Sullins.

The Hill College Board of Regents will meet next on July 30, 2024.
